Headlamp connector
My neighbor rear ended somebody with his 535 with auto leveling headlamps. He needs a new headlight that he's trying to source at a junk yard, but the units that he is finding have flat pins inside of the connector, his car has round pins.
What is the reason to change the shape of the connector pins from the main wiring harness into the headlamp assembly? My guess is that a "regular" headlamp will physically fit into the space, so they changed the connector pins to ensure that only the correct lamps are used. Does this make sense?

What year are we talking about here? The F10 facelift (also known as LCI) models began production in July 2013. Perhaps that is the reason for the change.

Two headlamps that are the same shape have different connector pins. Except for the connector, the lamp fits the car.
