it is in the center console right behind the shifter. there are 2 buttons: the bottom button says "auto" and the 1 above that is the parking brake "P". it should be electronic just like the audi A6 & A8.
It works well on the Z4. Strange at first but you get used to it.

Of course it works well, but I want at least 1 mechanical part in my cabin. Something that makes the car feel a little more involved.

Sport Automatic Transmission (SAT) has the paddles, was introduced in the US with the LCI cars in model year 2008...

What will these blasted BMW engineers think of next? They're taking everything away that we control ourselves. Like, where is the flippin' hand crank? Instead of getting to walk out to the front of my car and feel the engine turn over and roar to life as I muscle that crank through its circle a few times, I just press a button on the dash. Where's the fun anymore??? I'm so disappointed!!!

So what happens when you're going down the road at 160kph and your kid
decides to poke the electric brake button with the red P on it?!

I still like the manual brake......
