My Ride: 2013 550i xDrive w/ M package
Default What can I do to make it feel faster?

Hi Guys -
Just picked up a 2013 550i xDrive with M package, and while it is FAST, it does not feel it. I am coming from a 2009 Audi S5 V8, and there was just so much Instant Rev and Power every time you just tapped the accelerator.

With the BMW, I feel (1) a slight lag and (2) don't get the punchy-ness and (3) can't really hear the engine rev. Now the BMW is faster than the S5, but the S5 just feels and sounds more hot rod-ish.

I felt the same when I went from a 2005 Infinity G35x to a 2009 BMW 335xi, clearly the BMW is faster but the G35x was so much more peppy.

Anything I can do to the BMW to make it more peppy and hot-rodish?

Much appreciated,

Not trying to be an a$$ but did you test the car before buying? These characteristics should have jumped out at then.

I had the same issue with the F10 550, coming from my E60 550. Ultimately I went with the M3. The F10 550 is a sweet car and very fast but ultimately I want something smaller with a sportier feel. The F10 550 is a more of a luxury car, a very fast one, but a luxury car.

Each driver buys a car to meet their individual needs. For many the 550 fills that need, sales have been solid. Just wasn't for me...

I did not - and can not tell you why except that we are all driven by demons that come out once in a while and make us do the unthinkable. I figured at 4.4 secs w/ M package that this should scream...I did test drive every other rival and watched 100's of reviews, but then out of the blue got this one when it was never in my real consideration set.

That being said, have been hearing about these Dinan mods.

Yes, Dinan could be an option but I am not knowledgeable... The F10 550 is fast and does handle well given its size and bulk. Others with more experience in modding the F10 will have to chime in. Good luck with the car!

definitely consider some sort of tune...coming from an NA to FI engine the feeling will be very different for you...a tune is a good place to start...

A Dinan tune will solve your issue. A friend has a 550 with a Dinan tune and he can give me a respectable challenge if he's in the right rpm range at the right time. It's as close as you can get a 550 to M5 territory without actually getting an M5. Should give you back a little bit of the "hotrod" feel of your S5

The BMS JB Stage 1 N63 Tuner for the BMW F10 550i is a great choice. The tune will instantly boost your power gains, giving your car a totally different feel, with more power and better throttle response.

The tune itself is completely plug and play, attaches to the sensors in the engine bay, and works with your factory DME. It'll remap your boost, timing, and fueling for optimal performance and reduced turbo lag. Power gains on an otherwise stock car are up to 25hp and 40tq to the wheels. Installation is very discrete and it quickly removes without a trace when needed (for dealer visits). Fuel economy during normal driving is unchanged.

Is this a joke? Get a tune ASAP! That's the reason you get the 550i!!!!! I do to any fi engine, HUGE power gains, some tuners are seeing 100hp gains!! s4 was a little lighter and smaller. Then an exhaust will make it sound faster.

does the stage 1 tune throw any tuner codes? not familiar with newer software versions in F models, with previous tmap sensor tunes on the n54 and n55 engines you run the risk of throwin "tuner codes" correct, which could question warranty repair/work...is that stil the case with n63 engine tmap tunes, if so, is a detection and deletion (scanner) device also reccommended...
