Default Warranty coverage ... Bizarre to me.

I have to ask, because it really seems odd to me.

Pay $4k for a top tier warranty AT BMW DEALERSHIP, and somehow the warranty company indeed seams items are covered (4 of them essentially) but somehow the price they (Warranty Company Lithia) Will not cover the entire amount?

Now, I'm going on the premises the dealer is trying to soak me for about $2000 (includes $200 deductible) before they strong arm into me telling that I am on the hook for the money "difference". Um, how can that be?

I (at this point) don't fault the warranty company or the dealer. I just cannot fathom a warranty company agrees that items need replaced and won't cover all the labor costs that a BMW warranty dealer sold me for a BMW repair.

Help me understand who to be upset at.

A/C compressor leak
R front boot torn
stage 3 leak at oil pan
stage 1 leak at valve cover

The bill is about $6000.

Re-read your warranty's fine print. Therein will most likely lie your answer.

I remember my first experience with extended coverage I purchased from a dealer. All he basically did was hand me a brochure that showed covered, covered, covered. In reality, it should have said covered*. I was in hog heaven with the purchase until come time to actually use it. I dropped my car off to my indy mechanic and told him I had extended warranty. He said he has to call the company for details. He was on the phone for hours just to get things squared away and I ended up being covered.

But....

He then schooled me. He said [some] extended warranties are a rip off because they only cover hard parts. I'm like wtf does hard parts mean? He said its a part that will never normally fail during the duration of the warranty. Hard parts are 100% covered. They will cover* non-hard parts but with conditions. Meaning its covered* to some extent based on various factors (i.e. mileage, customer neglect, acts of God, etc etc).

Its all buried in the convoluted fine print.

In the end, I paid more for the extended warranty than what it actually covered (alternator failed, big whoop). I felt like I got played. BTW, this was not some BMW warranty. Was some fly by night company I've never heard of. But hey, their brochure was shiny and colorful and all I could see were the words covered, covered, covered and covered.

That's odd usually the BMW dealer extended warranty is great unless you got one off the ones on the low tier. I've always gotten the ones closest to factory warranty and never had a problem. Third party warranties are mostly garbage and you'll be without your car for months waiting for an approval and you have to foot the bill for the inspection which most people don't have. I currently have the extended BMW platinum warranty and have not had an issue with anything.
