I have yet to drive the F10, but I am scheduled for the UDE the end of this month. I wonder if they will have any 6MTs in the mix. Probably not.
I did study it along with the 5GT and F01 at this year's Denver Auto Show. My only disappointment with the exterior is the blunt nose.
Now to your review. It is well written, so at least some in your generation can still compose a paragraph with correct spelling and grammar. And not a single LOL! But, IMO the 5-series is not intended for 23 year olds. I believe it is known as an "executive saloon" in the literature, and you've got to be in your 40's to be an executive. 23 year olds are better suited to the 3-series.
And another thing. I'm sorry, but a 23 year old cannot say "as a lifelong die-hard BMW fan." You've been driving cars for 7 years. That's one generation of the 5-series. Even if your interest in BMWs began well before you were driving them, you're still not old enough to add "lifelong" to any sentence. LOL.

I was able to drive the 550i last week at Houstons UDE. I agree with your review. The turbo chargers have silenced the V8 growl that we've grown to expect and love. The F10 is more refined than the e60 which may be interpreted as more soft or luxurious. I feel that the car is too bulky. The weight and dimensions have increased too much and it no longer feels like a 5 series. I bet my comments are similar to what was said about the e60 during its debut.

As a new 550i owner, I know I'm a little biased here but let me just say, bottom-line, the new 5 series is the Best 5 series ever and the Best sports sedan in its segment! I've owned 4 5 series in the last 10 years so let's just say I have some experience. The F10 is just a brilliant piece of engineering inside and out.....it's ultra-smooth, ultra-fast (esp. in the 550i), and ultra-refined. The F10 is the "gentleman's" 5 series.....it's bigger, roomier, and much more comfortable and refined than the E60. The sports enthusiasts may not like the new direction the F10 is headed, but I think BMW had to see where the competition was going when they designed the new 5 series. I test drove the new Infiniti M56S a few weeks ago and while the overall package was very nice, I feel it just didn't measure up to the 550i.....personally, I hate the bloated "jelly-bean" shape of the new Infiniti M-class....very odd and the rear looks almost identical to the Mazada 6....the interior was nice, though.....performance-wise, the M56S just didn't feel like a 420hp car.....the 7-sp AT was constantly hunting for the right gear and sometimes there was a noticeable lag when you pushed the gas (MSN's recent road test of the M56S revealed 0-60 mph at only 5 sec....not great for 420hp). In comparison, the 550i's 8-sp sport AT is ultra-smooth and shifts are very precise, very responsive, and always in the right gear. All-in-all, you can't really go wrong with either the 550i and M56...they're both great cars, but for me, the 550i was the perfect fit.

Thanks for the review and comparison to the M56. I think you have a good point with market pressures pushing BMW to make the car smoother and more luxurious yet they have seemed to keep the sportiness. They seem to have managed the weight well but it still is several hundred pounds heavier than the E60 which is bound to have an effect on handling.
