It looks much better in person. Not as good as the e60, but admittedly when the e60 first came out, i didnt really like it.
the f10 appears wider and lower in person than it does in pictures. its not what we're used to but it is a very nice looking car.
i'm looking forward to seeing the m sport cars.

Here were my first impressions of the E60 from pictures. Certainly not very favorable next to an E39 M5. I then test drove a 530i which didn't match up to the driving experience of my M5 (not the one shown) either. When it came out, I certainly never expected to eventually own one. Probably the same deal with the F10.
Although, this time around, I'll probably go for an X5. I really liked the way the new X5 5.0 drove. Plus it has some extra utility that I want.

Agreed. The picture demonstrates that historically, the 5 Series has had a conservative design and the F10 follows in that tradition. The E60 was a ballsy, break the mold deisgn that bears no resemblance whatsoever to prior 5 Series or to any other BMW. No doubt that BMW execs decided to return to the past design lineage with the F10, which looks like a successor to the E39 and not the E60. Like I said, I bet that 5 Series sales rise with the F10 which seems more palatable to the mainstream.

I saw the F10 for the first time and was quite disappointed. It looked like a bigger 3 series (too roundish in my eyes) The E60 looks like what a 5 series should look like it has presence, looks mature and quite sporty in full M-tech. The sophistication is gone with this one and I feel that it just does not stand out in a crowd. I hate to say it but the E-Class has much more presence on the road?
