So says a BMW insider:

What is going on at BMW?! So the 5 series would have a coupe and cabrio and the 6 series will also have a sedan and cabrio?!
I'm so confused what their business plan is.

I highly doubt it. From what I've read myself, there are no plans for the 6 series for 2011....but most likely will return for 2012 with a drastic new design (most likely mirroring the 5 and 7 series).

Maybe there's shortage of news over in Chi-town
but around here the rumors are that the new 6er has been testing for months now, camo'd cars have been clocked on numerous occasions. You can check any number of blogs and automotive magazine sites - bimmerpost, bimmerfile, autoblog, etc etc etc. Not to mention, a 4-door coupe concept from 2010 Beijing Auto Show was a preview of the 4 door version of the 6 series - meant to compete against CLS.
From the following quote by the BMW insider who leaked out the 5er coupe/vert rumor:
Which means that there's a whole new segment for BMW to explore in newly-vacated, so to speak, mid-size coupe/vert, competing against E class coupe and vert, and such... so the new 6er will be more like the old 8er, which was the coupe version of the old 7er with a different body. the new (F10) 5er happens to be a "differently bodied 7er" in a way too, which makes the old 5er (E60) more of an original. And know who is THE original - Chuck Norris. I rest my case

From the following quote by the BMW insider who leaked out the 5er coupe/vert rumor:
In the present day with the next generation or third generation BMW 6er on the horizon. BMW have made the new car slightly larger and more powerful in appearance with the car giving a powerful expression of Performance and luxury.
Which will see a slight increase in price and status. The 6er will be BMW's top Coupe there will not be an 8er .
