I was wondering if some guys who went from 535 e60 to 535 f10 or 550 e60 to 550 f10 could compare how they feel the car pulls/power output character?

I found from driving recently, the f10 535 felt a lot slower than the e60 535. Neither which I own but had relatively good amount of seat time in each one over loaners in my time. 550 I have driven the e60 but have no comparison to the f10. I know what various magazines show but that really gives no idea to me from a feel standpoint.

Reason I ask is I am still a bit hard pressed to believe how slow the f10 535 I have had multiple times this last few months has been (i have had it again for a week)-my e60 is a dud and I am getting rid of it but besides the point. I remember the e60 535 being a rocket ship and feeling similar to the 335 which is a rocket, even in stock form (non-tune).

Not trying to bash the f10 and this is totally unrelated to which one is "better", just curious how the power trains compare in a practical fashion.

Even moreso is the 535 since its the same engine in a new package with a different tranny. I actually would have thought the new one with the 8speed is going to be feeling quicker as its able to stay in its power band more effectively with the extra gears but is it the weight or what sets this off?

when I test drove the f10 535i vs. my previous e60 535i, things I felt/noticed:

acceleration felt slower in the f10 535
ride comfort was better (softer) in the f10 535, could be viewed as good or bad
handling felt numb/disconnected with the f10 v. the e60.

I also test drove an f10 550, much different (in a good way) on the throttle....

***e60 535i: ZSP and ZPP
***f10 535i and f10550: ZSP, ZPP, and ZDH

perhaps it's a combination of the single turbo N55 vs. the twin turbo N54 along with the increased weight. Now I know car mags report similar times between both models which is great, but I personally don't drive around with a vbox, looking at all my times and speeds, but what i do pay attention to is how the car "feels". Again, how it "feels" is a personal and independent subjective experience...you can see what I decided to do once my e60 535i lease was up per my sig. If I don't end up keeping my current car, I'll most likely end up in an f10...

i've had a few bimmers over the years, and it seems to me that every newer generation that comes out feels more solid than the previous, but at the sacrifice of feeling the road....which probaly makes the car feel slower too.

I have extensive stick time in both the E60 550 and the F10 550 and all I can say is that the F10 550 is way faster, pulls harder, etc.

Well, the reason why the F10 535i doesn't feel faster (or slightly slower) than its predecessor is because the power output has remained roughly the same while the weight has gone up considerably.

It's a different story with the 550i. Even though the weight has gone up, power also has went up significantly, making it faster than its E60 counterpart.

(You could always mod your car--with Dinan, etc.--to squeeze more performance out of it).

However, the biggest selling point of the F10's isn't performance...rather it's luxury and refinement. If your top priority is performance, the F10 isn't your car.

How many of these "let's bash the F10" thread are you planning on starting Diamond? Just go buy a Corolla and be done with it, please.

You're saying "not to bash the F10" is like someone starting a comment by saying "no offense" - you know damn well they're going to say something offensive.

The F10 520dA might be a bit faster than the E60 520dA.

But as a car, the F10 is the Neue Klasse

wait, werent you the one with the long thread a few months ago, saying that the e60 535 felt no faster than your 530?

Where do you get I am bashing the f10? I specifically said this was no beef against the f10 but rather just a comparison of acceleration feel which is only one aspect of the car. Car mags notoriously give numbers that are difficult to define or realize in a practical sense.

I never said the e60 535 was equal to the 530. I did say and still agree that the F10 535 feels way to close to the e60 530. You definetly have more low end torque (obviously ) in the 535 but at the meat of the powerband it really felt way more equal compared to the e60 535 which always felt drastically quicker.

550 makes sense it is a lot faster given the huge bump in HP-realistically probably 110 or so considering it dynos almost 100 hp higher.

Does not make sense why they did not tweak the 535 for more power given the increase weight.

If you compare power to weight ratio between the 530 (255 hp and 3695 listed weight) is 14.2 compared to 13.9 for the f10 535 (and this is based on 315 hp which is more realistic than 300 and a weight listed as 4080) is 13.2. 1 pound per hp is quite different than the prior 11.9 weight to hp ratio in the e60. Makes sense why it is a much closer comparison.

Its just to bad as the 535 was so close to the 550 in the e60 and now it is back at the "530" mid level nowhere near the 550. Guess that is good if your a 550 owner but not so fun if you are a 535 potential owner
