Here's a quick review of the F10 from today's print version of the NYT:
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/18/au...ted=1&_r=2&hpw

And, in case the link dies, here's a .pdf version:

The article reads like a photo-op sales pitch set up for journalists; a prepared advert for the new model.
I look forward to a thorough review of the completely performance outfitted 550 sport package.
A line by line comparison with the e60 would be the most useful.
This really says nothing.

Dan Neil (the only automotive writer with a Pulitzer Prize and one of the best in the business) wrote this article on the 535 upon the initial press launch.

It's interesting reading, he makes specific mention of the things that are now being picked up by others.

Thanks for fixing the link, Rudy

Ultimately, though, we all ought to remember that these articles and reviews are just the opinion of the writer. Everyone comes to the table with different perspectives and the opinions of others are no substitute for our own as none of these journalists are making our car payments for us and all of us have different priorities in our cars.

Exactly. That's sort of why I was emphasizing in the C&D thread that people really need to drive the F10 for some time before making any opinions about whether they like it or not.

Have you had a chance to drive one yet?

Crank the BMW to its Sport Plus chassis setting, and it?s hard to imagine anything in this class outrunning a 550i with a manual transmission.
Have a nice day! End of argument.

Yep, but not over as extended a period as I would like so your point is well taken, Rudy. I can understand some of the feedback here and from others elsewhere, but I would certainly like to spend more time behind the wheel. That's why I'm so interested in the perspectives here.

If I go back to 2004 I remember the uproar from the faithful and also clearly remember thinking that BMW was ahead of its time with the E60 and how the doubters were simply stuck in the past. I voted with my wallet and bought the 545 and later the 550. I think it's a little different this time as were talking more of an evolution in the E60/F10 transition than the revolution we saw in the E39/E60 transition. It's certainly not the same here as it was in 2004. It's not lost on me that the debate this time around is focusing on a few philosophical and engineering differences, whereas back in 04 it was the whole car that was being called into question. Maybe BMW is right, we just need more time to adjust. I can say with certainty that I am definitely starting to become less interested in sport and am placing more emphasis on comfort, ride and technology. In that regard, the F10 may well be closer to being the right kind of car for me than I am thinking right now.

"...Not surprisingly, the 5 drives more like a scaled-down 7 than a scaled-up 3..."

That about sums up my feeling of the F10 for me...not saying it's a bad thing...

I agree and think that the three of us, at least, are all starting to show our age!
