New car purchase
Thinking of buying a new 535m sport-what's the protocol?
Do I order online and walk into my dealership with invoice in hand?
I shall trade in my 2010 535 and finance the difference?
Or do I order from the dealer - I can't find a car out there with the options I want-what was Henry Ford thinking?

I'd build out the car just the way you want it on BMWUSA.com and bring the print-out with you. Houston is a competitive market so shop around unless you have a particularly good relationship with one dealer.
Frankly I would e-mail the various dealers with the car built they way you want and ask them to quote a price. See who really wants to make that sale!

agree, email various dealers with the specs/options and see who gives you the most competative price, but ordering is the way to IMO if you are looking for particular options and don't mind waiting. it's also nice if you do some research so you know what the invoice price is vs the msrp, helps when negotiating
good luck

I seem to be a thread killer with this but go to www.truecar.com and price it out with all your options. They can show you what people actually paid for the same config. It's a free resource that's designed to save money, so I'd slap that on the list too.

Was not familiar with the Truecar website, looks like a good resource! For those willing to put in the time, the resources available to car buyers today can really give them an advantage over the dealers...

agree, that along with most dealerships providing an online sales department really makes the car buy/researching process much easier. Quotes and negotiations are done over email, all numbers are documented, at time of acquisition you are literally in and out....
