Ordered an m sport 550 i 6 days ago. Carbon black. I'm psyched!
How long before the build process shows up on "my bmw"? The build number is still the "Old number" from a previous build.

TIA, Mike

Could take a while depending upon the production schedule. If you call BMW-NA and use the Vehicle Production Status command the info is usually more accurate.

Thanks guys,. I'm a waiter now. First Beemer ever. The 800# indicated production is not scheduled yet.

The sales guy was touting Dinan's chip. 400hp>495HP and torque increases from 479 to 575 ft/lb. Is this snake oil or real?

I've chipped a few porsches but never saw that huge a difference in HP/torque.

Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

Mike

Snake oil. A chip alone can't make that big of a difference.

I think it's real, actually. Twin turbo 8?? Pretty sure it is real.

The results of Dinan?s tuning are nothing short of breathtaking, with the added boost and related re-calibration producing a maximum output of 495 horsepower at 5000 rpm and 573 lb-ft torque at 3500 rpm.

This item is worth 2 point(s) towards your Dinan Badge.

Price: $2,999.00

Labor Hours: 0.5

From: Dinan Cars - Stage 1 Performance Engine Software/Boost Upgrade (550i Only)

My understanding is that the the 535 twin turbo responded very well to a chip - similarly other turbos like the Audi A4 (S) gets massive gains with a chip. I assume the 550 show gains.

I still don't understand how a chip upgrade by itself can account for extra 95 hp and 123 lb-ft torque. Even with exhaust and engine mods, it's still not an easy task.

Unless it's been verified by independent labs, I say it's all smoke and mirrors.
