Just found this tonight on BMWBlog, apparently lifted from 5post.com. I caught myself trying to compare the car's stance and proportions in comparison to the others around it in the traffic. Honestly? Looks pretty sporty to me -- even in standard trim.
I'm usually quickly bored by these type videos, but I think you'll enjoy them:

my opinion? instant classic, even in standard trim.
reminds of both the E90 and F01, but is much, much better proportioned than any of them.
and here the sedan is again better resolved than the touring, contrary to the E60/61
i just hope it does not get boring too quickly, and that it has a much better-quality interior with less noisy plastics

It's my personal opinion. I like the idea of the E60 rear lights, but in my view the actual execution was not so good - I think they go too much into the fenders, and distort the form of the car a bit, and also the belt line looks too high at the rear end of the car.
The E61 by idea has a more conservative design in the back, so by definition it should fits less well the front. BUT in my view the execution has turned out better, and overall the car looks more balanced from the side, and the rear itself looks more "timeless", and at the same time dynamic and sporty.
But there is no point in arguing about that - design is highly subjective and as we have both E60s and E61s here, we will have both types of opinions.
