Does one pay sticker price for a BMW? Or is it customary to take, say 10% of sticker price?

Customary - no. You don't just walk int oa dealer asking for 10% off sticker. But nobody pays sticker price either. You negotiate - most dealers willing to go down a bit. Find out what invoice price on your car is - then add $1000 to it and I'll give you 99.9% that your dealer will accept this price.

I did exactly what texaz3 suggested when I bought my 535 in 2007. I went to the Internet sales department since I had already expressed interest via email. I custom ordered my car with only the options I wanted and paid invoice plus $1000. It's was the easiest transaction ever. No haggling. Waiting for my 535 to be built was the hardest part!
