Idrive update over air?
Just got myself a 2012 F10, asked the dealer if they could ensure the software is on the latest version
They've refused as they say that the software gets automatically updated over the air.
Is this true?

Not that I'm aware of!! Sounds like BS to me... You can find software updates for things like Bluetooth and entertainment functions on the BMW website. You load the update onto a USB stick then insert into the center console USB port to update...
Updates for engine or transmission related things are not handle through this method but are done at the dealer. Never heard of over the air updates!
Go here and enter your VIN to see if any updates are available.
BMW Bluetooth interface : software update

No doubt an OTA (over the air) could be in the future - but as already posted, today some 'minor' updates can be made by the car's owner via USB ... and, putting things in perspective, just think back to the recent past when that wasn't possible without a visit to the dealer or a safe cracker!
Give it time ... give it time and dream when the world wide web will be able to deliver 50hp+ via www. makemyrideanM.com (not a real website!!)
