Wouldn't the 19's you're referring to here actually be 331's as opposed to 311's?

You are 100 correct that there are downsides to big wheels. The problem, as I see it, is that, to me, the wheels that BMW has created for the F10 that are smaller than 20's are not attractive and are very plain jane. This, to me, is a big mistake by BMW because the F10, which is quite conservatively styled in the spirit of the E39, could really use some blingy wheels to spice it up. Attractive wheels need not be twenties. Indeed for the E60, the 19 inch 166s, 167s (yes I know that this wheel is intended for the M6) and 172s all look great. I think that the 19s for the F10 are ugly. Maybe I am wrong but that's my opinion and wheels are like clothes and shoes -- what looks good to one person may not to another.
This is a long-winded way of saying that BMW needs to come up with some more attractive 19s for the F10. To me, the 19 inch styles are so ho hum that I'd have to go for the 20s as my summer wheels.

+10000 - perfectly said Scott, in short the 19" wheels for the F10 are BORING!!!! Sad but true, if they had made a truly attractive 19 for the F10 I would have voted that way easily.

Large wheels on low profile wheels are bad for your car FACT! However if you got good tires and drive carefully around pot holes it will be just fine. Designers do not create wheels just so they look good esthetically but also for performance and endurance. I would take 20" since they look better to me and since F10 is Wider it would need bigger wheels!

Yup. I am telling you, I'd rather slap on one of the fly E60 BMW wheels on the F10 than use one of the snoozer designs. I definitely don't like 20s for the potholed roads of NYC.

Altough I am biased, I like the 20"s much much more...
But I als agree that 19" will be a more comfortable ride...I run op 20"s because I only drive about 10K a year...otherwise the lack of comfort and to be on the lookout for potholes would drive me crazy
But as looks go...20" is the way to go..

It is up to personal preferences. Some would take the largest size wheel that would fit and sprayed the bedliner where YOu would normaly found a tire
