My dealer sent me an invite to come drive the new F10 5 series during one of their meet and greet days. My son is starting college in the fall so I am not in the market for a new car and wasn't particularly interested.
The message went on to say "or test drive these other exciting models that will be available during the event..."
128i Convertible - I'm not a convertible guy
335d - I have no interest in diesels and even if they are wonderful the handful of places I stop to buy gas don't sell diesel
535GT - No interest, too heavy, too expensive, looks weird
650i Convertible - See above
740Li - No interest in a 6 cylinder 7 series, not wild about the looks
ActiveHybrid X6 - No interest and what the hell is the point of a Hybrid X6?
X5 xDirve35d - See diesel comment above
Z4 sDrive35i - I like the new Z4 but it is big money (as much as I paid for my E46 M3)
When I first started buying BMW's 10 years ago, except for the convertibles, if I had the money I would have said ?I'll take one of everything?. Excluding price it would have been hard to choose which model to buy. Now I have a hard time finding ANY model that I want to buy.
Don't want a diesel ? See above
Don't want a turbo (before the eco weenies ruled the world BMW was quoted as saying "you will never see turbo chargers on our vehicles because the response of a naturally aspirated engine is what makes a BMW a BMW" or something to that effect). Now even the new V8's are turbos.
Don't want a Hybrid - EVER
And if my next car comes with run flats I will have to budget for 4 new tires on top of the purchase price because I am NOT driving on those tires. No matter how much they improve them physics tells me that making a tire sidewall stiff enough to support 25% of the weight of a car will not perform and ride as well as compressed air in a good tire. Then I have to deal with do I risk driving without a spare tire (thankfully my E60 has a spare)
Ok I guess my rant is over but I am bit bummed. Ten years ago I thought I was going to be a BMW guy for life, time to surf the ads for Audi S4's and Porsche Caymans again...

Great and very mad post mhs525
Well, times are changing.
Soon all cars will have turbos and be hybrids with a gas or diesel combustion engines,
and don't forget the fully electric engine cars.
But Archie Bunker's times are gone - for good.
PS. Nice that your son will get a good education.
Over here studying is free at all universities and collages,
as long as one is smart enough to manage the entrance examination.
PPS. All this said in good faith.

Funny you should mention that, I was trolling Auto Trader looking for old Jags, my wife wants one. As I was looking at 2004 XJ8 I was wondering was else they had and I almost hit the "call me" button.
There it was... A late model CL600, Black, 12 cylinder, looked perfect and was gorgeous inside. It had 73k miles but they only wanted $30k for it. You are totally screwed if something major breaks on a 12 cylinder Merc without a warranty but MAN what a car. That sucker was over $100k new. I just may take a chance on something like that for my next car.
What?s better, take your chances on a 12 cylinder Merc for $30k and leave $40k in the bank or a new M3 or 550 for $70k+/-????

Got the same invite. I signed up to drive the 5 series only. Hopefully the 550. Might drive the 335d for giggles. The E60 may be my last BMW until the F10 refresh.
