In the US, cars tend to be much better equipped ...
It's swings and roundabouts.

eg You have a better standard audio than EU but PDC is an optional extra whilst standard in UK...

So IMHO "tend to be much better equipped" needs some interpretation.

...much much better NAV system:
- preferably change of map / software provider towards something more user-friendly (how about NAVITEQ?)
I thought Navteq DID provide the map data!

I am not sure, though what I saw recently by NAVITEQ is so pressive (and yet user-friendly) that it would be nice to see something similar as a factory system... ( I am talking about "Reality View" and "Lane Assistant", not to mention downloadable speed-camera points, speed-limits assistant, current online map-updates, etc)
See a pic here:

As I understood the article about the F10/F11 that will be one of the "big improvements" - partly because it will run with FlexRay...?

IMHO: Some new and revised should be done

1-Manual control options for every feature./settings
2-Navigation -Touch screen, back up sensor & Camera - should turn AUTOMATIC in reverse driving, Navitek/Navigon( saw an awaesome post here)
TV/DVD while stationary, Large screen/split screen option, PC to navi address input feature, rear TVs/DVD option/ comp.option
3-Comfort access with exit feature(auto lock), car should lock/do not move once we move away few feet
Comfort warm-up Remote-Battery start to warm the car in winter(at present in Euro), remote check of car status
4-Blind spot info on navi/ HUD/Windshield, side bumpers-steel accessory
5-Start-Stop ignition On BMW metal in steering
6-Auto gear stick behind the steering(Right lower side) and more shelves/space slant platform merging with controls
7-ACC stop and Go with manual distance set/adjust by driver
8-UV 99% Glass with Solar heat rejection option (windshield, sides and back,Moonroof, side view mirrors)
9-More interior trims and leather color combos(gray, blue,Silver)
10-Palm features in I Drive(appointments, calender, Calculator)
11-Windows control buttons on inside doors shoul move to location as in previous models(At present legs touch )
12-All season tires STD and RFT always an option-Tire pressure display once goes down 10-20% of recommended.
13-Gasoline:Midgrade/Regular, Fuel door on Driver's side for US models,
Gasaoline indicator should stay per gas qty even with engine off(love this feature in my Honda-accord)
14-Manual control for heated windshield/wipers, side windows and back glass
15-Option:Engine should from V6/8 go to V3-4 when cruising/city driving(Future Honda)
16-Kidney grills option & back #s (528,535,550) (Silver, Gray, Black)
17-Panoramic Moonroof / ALL Glass roof option(Skyroof?)
18-More Quiet interior (AC, Tire noise, Wind, other cars/trucks from outside,)
19-Better mpg in city & Hwy as well
20-More options Bluetooth Telephones(we have limited cell phones that can be used now),
21-Back windows half down option with kids in back
22-Back seats should fold down & Leather seats should be STD.
23-Passenger side dash board improvements - should have a big srceen with dome. for work area/ Keyboard pullout/ USB drive /or somethog better.
24-Remote control of your car fetures/data thru your PC/Laptop (as our tel, dish tv,etc are controlled and fixed remotely), Dealer/ service dept. check of our vehicle with the password/code access.
25-Comfort Park and Exit: (360 degree view with image as in infiniti-new)in Parking spots, Parallel parking & in garage.

You really should go for a Jap/Korean car aqkhan6us.

But lucky for us BMW fans is, the that six cylinder engines are 3 litre six-in-lines, not shaky V6's.

Do not take me wrong, I wanted to have MB / BMW for a longtime & I am glad I got New BMW-528 xi( my first) this year.
Hope I will have better / very good experince like Japanese autos I have now ( My '94-Accord >190,000 Miles, still good.)
I posted the wish list that can apply to any Car/SUV & I prefer them on BMW.

Some ideas:
5. Have a choice in iDrive so that Headlights would automatically come on when the Automatic Wipers are working
Both my E46 and my X3 have this feature.

all of the above, but no V6

2 doors hatchback version (sports-wagon) and hydro-electrical engine would be really cool.
