Sales for October are out and for the first time I can recall the new 5 Series has sold more in a month than the E Class. BMW reported 5044 units for 5 Series-branded vehicles (F10/F07) in October, MB reported 4516 E-Class branded vehicles in the same period.
The E is still way ahead for the year, with too big a gap for the F10 to catch up by year end, but this was a good month for the F10. The increase is perhaps due in part to the four-cylinder 2012 528 release. I get the sense that BMW has been much more aggressive of late than MB in terms of its marketing support with this being a probable driver for the sales numbers. Will be interesting to see how MB responds. Still, a great month for the F10.

Nice to hear about the F10's continued success. Everyday, I see more and more F10's out on the road and it seems the numbers support that.

Yes it was another solid montht for the F10, and great to see it finally overtake the E-Class. Comparing sedan-only sales, BMW sold 4,792 of the 5er, while MB sold 3,929 E-Class. The last time the 5 series outsold the E-Class was November, 2010.
October, 2011 sales of the F10 essentially ties for the best-ever month (4,793 units sold in December, 2010).
The 7 series also had a good month, outselling the MB S-Class 1,103 to 927.

It's just a question of time when the F10 outsells the E-series, if not yet.
It would be interesting to see how many 4-door sedans are sold 5-series vs. E-series.
In EU the F11 sells extemerly good.

Mercedes reliability is pretty good. By most metrics it's considerably better than BMW. And the E Class did indeed end the year with the US sales crown - by a massive margin.

Sorry, but I don't agree with you, since BMW's reliability is as good as Mercedes (at least). The reason why the E-Class outsells the 5 Series is just its much more broader trims line-up in the USA. Just look at the global sales figures, and you'll see that the 5 Series leaves no chance to the E-Class, comfortably sitting at the top of its segment.
