If you guys look closely when the the out going E39 had 400 bhp, the Audi RS6 or what not had 450 bhp, then the new M5 became 500 bhp and the RS6 is now 575 bhp, if history repeats then new M5 will be most definitely be in the 600 bhp + range, just my $0.02

Another reason BMW will get rid of the V-10:
Taxes, I think some countries are taxing owners based on displacement so the V-10 has got to go if sales are to continue.

I think the V10 is not coming back in the new M5.
First of all the V10 was derived from F1 technology.
F1 switched to 8 cylinders a couple of years ago.
Now BMW announced that they will exit F1 completely due to a new company strategy.
The new company strategy has not been further explained but you will see BMW invest a lot more $$ into "green" cars, full electric and/or gas-electric hybrid's.
Less $$$ will go into hyped up sports cars, and big engines. You will see more smaller engines with high output with the help of turbos and the like.
IMHO

My Ride: 2008 535i: June 6th start build, complete June 17th, at NY Port July 5th, at dealer July 10th, took delivery Friday July 13- Plantimum Bronze/Natural Brown Leather/Light Poplar, Sport Package, Sport Auto, Active Steering, Premium Package, CWP & PDC. Dinan Performance Software 384hp & 421 ft/lbs.
The v10 has smaller and lighter pistons so it can rev higher. Higher revs processes more fuel which results in more power. Turbo charging forces more fuel with pressure so it doesnt need higher revs to process more fuel.
They wont use a TT V10.

The other reason is that BMW has a modern TT V8 already. Audi is using the Lamborghini derived V10 and will turbo it but their existing 4.2 liter V8 may not be able to be pushed more than they have already.
