One of the major car mags to which I subscribe reported this month that BMW will scrap the V10 for the F10 M5 and is going to use a twin turbo 4.8 liter V8 producing 550 bhp.
I wonder if the statement that the engine would be 4.8 liters (rather than 4.4) is inaccurate because I thought that the TT V8 in the X5M and X6M displaced 4.4 liters.

Isn't there more potential for turbo charging the v10 as apposed to the 4.8l considering the v10 has 5.0l? That's what I don't get? Why put out a v8 when it seems like a tuner could turbo a e60 m5 and have more hp/displacement.
Ie: my old m5 has a 6 cil and with a turbo it's faster than your e39.
Well I put a turbo on my e39 and it blows doors off an e60 m5.
Well I put a turbo on my e60 and it blows doors off the f10.
Well I put a bigger turbo on my f10 to keep up w/ the turbo v10.
Well I put that same turbo u did on my e60?
How could the 4.8 keep up?
Stronger materials to run double digit boost?
I read all the mags too and heard those roomers but IMO I think they're just trying to keep everone off the real truth! conspiracy theory! That and I just would be sad to see the v10 go, it's what makes the m5/6 unique

I think the V10 is not coming back in the new M5.
First of all the V10 was derived from F1 technology.
F1 switched to 8 cylinders a couple of years ago.
Now BMW announced that they will exit F1 completely due to a new company strategy.
The new company strategy has not been further explained but you will see BMW invest a lot more $$ into "green" cars, full electric and/or gas-electric hybrid's.
Less $$$ will go into hyped up sports cars, and big engines. You will see more smaller engines with high output with the help of turbos and the like.
IMHO

My Ride: 2008 550I LOADED, all options except HUD and NV
Another reason BMW will get rid of the V-10:
Taxes, I think some countries are taxing owners based on displacement so the V-10 has got to go if sales are to continue.
