OK. There have been spy photos of X M's, PAS, 7er, Alpina, etc, all well before their respective launch dates. Why oh why is there so little information (only speculation) on the upcoming F10/5er? What is BMW trying to hide?

Yeah!
I would expect tons of pics online depicting the possible looks of the F10 and/or designs and test car pics....... Look at all the other brands and you'll see lots of pics...... not this one.
No 'concept model' pics... no nothing.... just that one pic that was on a German magazine cover......

BMW has always been pretty successful with hiding the cars that they don't want seen until they unveil them, so I don't see why anyone would be so surprised.
Probably about 2-3 months before the actual reveal they'll "leak" some shots out of the finished car.

I would think leaking pictures right now of a new F10 might discourage some prospective buyers from buying the E60 now and causing them to wait for the F10 which BMW doesn't want to hapen. Sales are bad enough.

The F10 is so ugly those that have seen it dont want to scare the public.
Or the E60 is so pretty evwryones in denial and dont want the F10.
Ya prior models theres usually more hype reguardless if BMW is trying to hide the test mules or not, you'll see people posting test pics. Unless BMW hasn't started testing it yet.

With so many aiming at what has for many years been described as the ultimate driver's car (the 5 series), BMW doesn't want to give the competition any leeway into its design. When you start having Honda Accords, Pontiac G8s, and Hyundai Genesis' aiming at you (let alone Audi and Mercs), you've got to raise the bar even higher. I'm sure with the G8's and Genesis being given very high marks as cars "comparable" or even besting to the BMW 5 according to some major magazines, you can be reasonably assured that the designers and executives at BMW are tweaking and molding the next 5 to be worlds above this new 'competition'.
