Edmunds in its full test of the F10 535i noted many of the same positives and issues raised in some other posts and reviews.

The 2011 535i is characterized as a "comfortable cruiser" and "no longer the sportiest care in the segment".

The review adds:
"We'd love to tell you that all these advances result in better test numbers, but the simple and unpopular fact is that, save the 60-0-mph braking distance, the 2011 BMW 535i is outperformed in every performance test by its predecessor."

Added weight in the 2011 535i is blamed in part for the differences in performance.

The bottom-line remains positive:
"The critical question will be how the 5 measures up to the tasks of daily driving, convenience, over-the-road comfort and moving passengers with grace and style. And using those standards it's hard to say it's anything but a wild success."

I thought the 535i F10 had a single turbo! One of the pictures on Edmunds shows the engine written on it Twin Turbo. Also I was surprised with the 0-60, 5.9 seconds!!! I would've expected this number to be around 5.1-5.2. What is 0-60 on the 545i and 550i?

Car & Driver clocked the 535i in it's 0-60 test at 5.4 sec. so it's all relative (weather, road conditions, car conditions, and driver skill all play a factor so you can't read too much into one test).

It's true that the F10 has been purposely designed towards a more "mature" driver than its predecessor. Luxury, comfort, and convenience are all elevated more than ever before.

As I've said all along, if you want as much sport in the F10 as possible to go along with the luxury and comfort, you need to step up to the 550i. It's blazing fast while being extremely smooth and refined at the same time.

At the end of the day, it is what it is. If you don't like what you see, get something else....or go for a test-drive and you may be pleasantly surprised.

As we've all said, BMW is in real trouble with the F10, they cannot compete with MB for segment leader of luxury cars, their only edge is/was driver enjoyment and sportiness, which the F10 has none of.

To our resident F10 defender, as you very well know, the F10 535i and eventually the 528i will be the volume car that speaks to what the F10 is defined as, not the 550i, which btw gained nearly 400lbs since the E60, negating any power gains :thumbsdown: In the E60 guise, the 535i was the perfect mix of sportiness and luxury which the F10 certainly is not, what else can be said, a complete failure in terms of begin the Ultimate Driving Machine :sleep:

Boy, if you're this quick to judge a car, then the E60 would have failed back in 2004.

The acceleration numbers are at least unbelievably slow. I think that the 0-100kmh come at 6 seconds flat. And Infinity M37 is faster than the 535i? Ridiculous. Another ridiculous comment: "The 5 Series is no longer the benchmark in its class" (the meaning goes to that). I guess something was wrong with the test driver.
THE 5 SERIES WAS, IS STILL AND WILL ALWAYS BE THE CLASS LEADER. IN EVERYTHING!

Actually I adore the new 5 Series, but there are 2 problems with the new model:
1. Too much weight;
2. Too overpriced. In this example in order to have a complete car you have to add nearly USD10000 thus paying approximately USD60000 for the car. I think that it's too much for this segment.

It is single turbo, what you saw was that it said "Twin POWER" turbo. That means it's got a dual stage single turbo :thumbsup:

I think that BMW has made a wonderful new 5 Series by making it the most comfortable 5 Series ever made. But at the same time I think that this new 5 Series lacks to some extent the core BMW value that won so much customers: driving enjoyment. But anyway I'm sure that even in that state the new 5 Series is still the car to beat for the rest of its competitors.
