I don't get why BMW insists on the RF tires.

They are simply ruining the whole car, at least on our lousy roads,
up here in the North.

They are hard, noisy and tramlines real easy.
All e60.net writers knows this.

I try to order a new F10 without RF's, but that seems totally impossible.

I have made an issue of this;

If I can't order a new BMW F10 without 18" or 19" RF's, I will swap my car brand!

According to BMW, the new RFT's are a big improvement. Blind tests apparently show that customers have not been able to note whether the F10 was equipped with RFT or not. So, hopefully the difference will not be as great as it was with the E60/E61.

My views on RFTs are not as final as yours ... I admit that the current variety, while better than first editions, still have a long way to go. But, for many drivers they are a reasonably worthwhile feature.

But it seems that for you they are not.

So, rather than abandon the brand you have been loyal to for more than 30 years, maybe your dealer could arrange a new tire swap on delivery of your next new BMW that makes economic sense for both of you?

Just a thought!

BMW puts on tires that they get the best deal on. I doubt they get the best deal on the most popular tires.

I have had my reservations about them, especially as my E60 was very hard.
However the difference in my F10 is huge. The tyre profile is now 45 instead of 40, although still 18s. And yes, I do not have sport suspension now, but the difference overall is huge.

I always understood that the E60 (suspension) was never developed with RFT in mind (a decison made later in de the development) and that this was part of the issue. With the F10, they hoepfully did a better job.

I drove the new F10 (a 530dA) with 19" GoodYear RF's.

The where pretty nice, but also brand new.

Still I think, I want non-RF's on my new (?) F10.

I just may stick to my E60 for the rest of my life.
It's a very nice car with a fantastic little engine -
and in the summer with non-RF tires.

That's what we call it when the temperature is above freezing.

I use the summers between early April until late November,
so it's actually more than half the year.
