Personally I wouldn't even consider the new 5er when there's new A6. That's just my opinion and not only mine. I've shown recent videos to some of my friends who are (to be more precise, already used to be)5 Series fans, and initially they got very surprised, then clearly said that they will buy the A6, because now there's no reason to spend lots of money for a car (F10) which is not the best at anything.
OK. Show us the numbers.

No need to get into details. We'll take what the automakers published regarding the last 2 generations. BMW stated that starting from 2005 to 2008 the 5 Series was the best seller in its segment, and Mercedes-Benz did the same for 2009 and 2010 regarding the E-Class (and that happened because the E60 was coming to the end of its life cycle). This year the 5 Series retook the best seller crown from the E-Class again according to BMW. That's all.

It hasn't. MB sold 330,800 E Class models last year, and sales are up. I can recall only one month that the F10 outsold the E, when the delayed xDrive models shipped, otherwise the E is the segment lead. BMW has a slight lead overall compared to MB. In the US, Lexus has historically outsold both...

The last year was 2010, and I agree with you. I stated it in my comment. But this year it's a completely different story. The F10 clearly brings the E-Class to its knees in terms of sales worldwide.

It isn't. But both are doing very well. Why don't we return to this thread in 2012 and see who was right

We're just having a civilized conversation, my friend. But this topic isn't about it. And whatever we say, I'm almost sure that the A6 will kick both 5er and E-Class asses starting from the next year.

Damn, the F10 in the video is all over the place whereas the A6 is well planted and took those turns like a champ.

Here are the videos from the InsideLine comparison between the 3.0 A6 and 535i:

Audi has done a nice job with this A6. Not to say the 535 isn't a great car, but I suspect few would have predicted it getting outhandled by the AWD A6. And before anyone asks, the 535 has Sport and DHP.

Either way, we're back to the point made earlier which is that buyers in this class have some excellent cars to choose from.

Thank you in advance
this would not surprise me Audi is getting better and better.
The F10 is on the big and heavy side.
