I plan on ordering a 550 with the M-Sport package in the next few weeks. I haven't yet decided between the 550i and 550xi (AWD is a nicety but not a necessity). I'm concerned the increased ride height of the xi will detract from the sporty appearance of the car. I've found a few pics of an xi with the M-Sport package and some look okay while others appear to have a large gap between the wheel and fender. Does anyone here have good pics to share of their car?

Unless you get a lot of snow in your area, I'd say ditch the X-Drive. For one, it adds excessive weight and complexity to the car and can hurt performance. A good set of snow tires for winter is more than enough in my opinion.

Also, getting X-Drive and M-Sport together is sort of contradictory.....for example, instead of performance tires, the X-Drive will come with all-seasons.

^good point regarding the tires, although the f10 msport pkg is purely cosmetic, unlike the previous generation...so the msport + x-drive IMO is not contradictory for the F10 IMO

Purely cosmetic NO it's not here in the UK.
Give me the two wheel drive and winter tyres any day.

Regardless of ride height, I think getting x-Drive also stops you from getting some options like active steering, active roll, parking assistant, etc

Well, according to BMW international web-site, 550i Xdrive is 0.2 s faster than RWD 550i: 4.8 vs 5.0 (0-100 Km).

I ordered 550i Xdrive with M-sport package last week.
The only differences are the tires and non-staggered wheels. Other than that M-sport package on Xdrive is same as for RWD. It includes: dynamic damper control, adaptive drive and ARS.
And, yes, you can not order IAS and parking assistant fot the Xdrive.

Back to the OP's original question, I do not believe that the 550 xDrive sits any higher than the non-xDrive version. The height is shown identically in the bmwusa website and is beared out by what I've seen. btw, it is almost 150 pounds heavier.

In terms of what the M-sport package includes and does not include, it is very much market-dependent and so it would be helpful to know where the OP resides. fwiw, in the US, you can get everything in an F10 xDrive model except performance tires and active steering.

Car & Driver and MotorTrend has the RWD 550i from 0-60mph at 4.8 sec.

But like I said earlier, X-Drive adds more weight and complexity to a car that's already pretty heavy...it does hurt overall performance (not just straight-line) and gas mileage.
