535i Questions
Hello,
A friend is considering a 535i and wanted to know the following? 1. What is a good year to get a 535i that is mechanically solid? Are there any years he should steer away from? 2. What are common mechanical issues or problems he should be on a lookout in a 535i? Lastly, any other advice or suggestions you can think of regarding getting a 535i will be very helpful! Thanks in advance! |
Other members can answer this question better than myself. My previous F10 535i (2012) was perfectly fine but I returned it at lease end with only 19k miles on the clock. I am currently on my 2015 F10 535i with just a couple more gadgets and only 1,800 miles on the clock. So far so good. What is your friend looking for? Your friend, if he/she wants a used 535i, should get a CPO (Certified Pre-owned) one or a 535i with warranty on it. That's all I can suggest from my narrow experience.

I bought a cpo 2013 535i x drive m sport with 35k miles on it. my fuel injector recently failed and caused the engine to give up on my way home, was in the shop for 2 weeks, new engine under warranty, when i got it back the check engine light never turned off and i took it back and they told me the high pressure fuel pump gave out. its currently still in the shop, going on a 10 days. im not sure if this will answer your question as i dont know anyone else having the same problems.

My 2010 E60 535i was probably my favorite car - that being said it needed some maintenance. The turbos (N54) went out at 70k and BMW replaced them under warranty. I don't know how old/new you're looking for but if it's a higher mileage car (80k+) make sure it's had some service done or be ready to do it - coils, water pump, that kind of stuff.

I bought 2102 535i CPO 2 years ago. Its been great so far, just did oil change and simple maintenance myself. I would say stay away from M or V8s, my friend has 550 and it's given him more problems. Best deals are at the end of the year, got mine on 12/31.

Hello
I bought a 2013 535i M sport about 15 months ago with 37K and I put 30K more, car has 67K already and I been in the dealer more than I used to be with my 2008 528i. First they put new front rotors and pads while still under the warranty, now I need to replace them again. It could also depend on how you drive, second visit, replace all of the side view cameras due to water getting to them, under the warranty and few months later back in again issues with the head up display sometimes not coming up, they found several signal faults and replaced the instrument cluster at about 52k, lucky I didn't have to pay because it was close to the warranty expiration. Last month back to the dealer for AC recharge already. I have my other E60 since 2010, I bought it with 60K it has already 198K still running strong and never have to recharge the AC so far. But I am happy with my car, it just seems that the more power and features more problems to deal with. |
