2014 535D Coolant Temperature
 

We have now owned our 535D for 7 months, 8500 miles with an average 29.5 mpg. No trips back to dealer since picking up vehicle!

However, the coolant temperature stays rock solid at approximately 210F winter or summer here in Texas. This is much higher than on previous gas vehicles.

Any relevant knowledge, experience or suggestions?

Looking for some outside understanding prior to discussion with dealer at upcoming first service checkup.

Your temperature is completely fine. It is actually extremely cool for a turbo car. Our 2014 640i Gran Coupe runs at about 265F. My 04 3 series hovers around 200F. Your temp is great.

All of the cars you mention have gasoline engines. Ours is one of the new (to US) diesel models.

It would be helpful if someone with experience with a BMW diesel 535D (European 530D) could share their experience.

Diesel engine efficiency is more sensitive to both operating temperature and inlet air temperature than gasoline engines.

If this is true, you need to get your car checked out. The breakdown point of most coolant is 265. That's really pushing the envelope if you ask me.

My huge turbo Supra runs at the highest after multiple highway passes on a hot summer day at 235.

The temperature gauge in the 'D' is the oil temperature, not coolant. I've been running an F10 535d for four years, 90000 ,miles +... gauge sits at 100C...never changes, no matter how hot or cold the weather is. I've driven in Scandinavia, with the ambient temperature at -8C, and in Southern Europe, with the ambient temerature at 40C...the gauge always reads 100C...

What you see is the oil-temperature at 210F = 99C.

The same as our F11 530dA. For the water temperature (in the hidden menu) I've seen between 90-107C (35C outside) which is all perfect. I even called BMW Assist because I thought the fan was running all the time during a journey to France this summer, and I transfered the data via BMW Assist, and 5 min later an BMW employee called me, and said my water temperature was perfect (107C - also shown in the hidden menu), and it's OK up to 115C during very hot days.
