I live in Thailand where the import tax is very high. My 520d m sport imported from the uk cost me 83,000 British pounds. Selling my car and buying a 535d would not just be expensive but also impossible because they don't even import 535d's. Thus my question. I would personally like to import the engine myself then get the mechanics to change the engine for me. So I would like to know how big of an engine will fit into the car??

Why did you buy a 520d? Go for the M5.

your best bet is to buy a wrecked car, and swap over all the necessary parts.

How much does the M550D engine cost? And does it fit into a 5 series (f10)?

Replace the new engine is not easy like we think, it supposed that have to replace some parts as well. I am in Chiang Mai, and I have order the 525d from BMW dealer shop last week. And before I made this order, I have checked the thailand grey-market for many days...some shops offer the BMW M5, which is the quite powerful saloon vehicle, and the price is around 9,500,000 Bath, also it can be cheaper depend on different equipments.
