I'm a big fan of the F10. I thought it would take longer, but after seeing a few 550 M Sports on the road recently, I have changed my mind. They look fantastic! Much better than the E60.

When I had my E39, I was convinced the E60 wouldn't do it for me and it took over two years to move on, but this F10 looks great. I can't wait to see the M5 on the road next year.

Atta boy C! I have to say that an E60 was behind me yesterday and as I looked at it in the mirror, I couldn't help but think how "old" it looks! I remember having the same feelings about the E39 when the E60 first came out. Just to prove what I'm saying, take a look at the caption of a gallery photo I posted back in October of 2004:

https://5series.net/forums/gallery/i...lassic-design/

Oh yeah, and check out what happened to me on Sunday evening -- I was driving my [spotless] car to a store a few miles from home and, when I got there, I pulled in to the parking lot. As I parked, a Chevy Blazer or something like that drove up and slowly circled around my car (which, of course, was parked in an end space far away from other cars). As I got out of the car, he rolled his window down and, at first, I thought, "Oh shit, did I cut him off or do something that pissed this guy off?" (I wasn't armed with any smoothies so I was really worried! )

Here's what happened after I got out of the car...

"IS THAT THE NEW 5 SERIES?!"
"Yes", I said.
"WOW!", he said. He then went on to say, "I saw you pull in to the lot and I just HAD to follow you so I could see it better. As soon as I saw you on the road, I thought it was the best looking BMW I've ever seen!"
"Thanks", I said. "You should get one", I added.

I keep getting compliments on my car too, even from e60 owners.

I've been indecisive as well but when I saw Glock-357's (John) 550 M sport up close a few weeks ago, it looked great. We parked side by side and it definitely made my car looked dated.

One thing though, I still can't get over the size of the F10. It still looks like a 7 up close; probably due to the longer hood/front section. My car looked light on it's feet compared to John's car so I'm really anxious to see how the F10 M5 is going to do in the handling department.

About that long creased hood on the F10, the February Roundel has an article on it. The design considerations are enlightening. Pedestrian safety consideration is well known, but there's also collision impact buffering, rainwater management, windshield wiper operation augmentation, and engine airflow.

What's the purpose of the metal strips on the door handle again?

Do you find the F10 Sport and Sport+ mode throttle tip-in a little aggressive at low speeds? I had to re-adapt to the throttle in my E60 6MT when I returned the F10 535i Sport Automatic loaner after two days
