As above really. Swapped out the standard M-Sport wheels for one of the recommended winter set-ups from BMW.
For the first couple of seasons the tyres were fine, but I've just had the rears replaced and I'm getting a weird handling effect.
Checked the rears and they were way too low at 29PSI, so inflated them to around 36 - which I still think may be too low.
Can't seem to find any reference to what it should be online - the best I found was for 17" wheels and tyres - and these are 16" 225/55.
Any clues?

I think 16" wheels are unusually "small" for an e60 / e61 but the rolling radius of the sizes you mentioned are nearly identical so speedometer and other systems that measure tire revolutions (like ABS, etc) should work fine. One last thing I'd confirm - especially for a touring where heavy cargo loads might be encountered - is the tire load capacity. It should be marked on the tire sidewall. You want to ensure a tire can safely handle the weight of the vehicle and it's max load ... see here: http://www.tirerack....e.jsp?techid=35

All that's fine - the speed rating is lower (H as opposed to Y) but the load rating is actually higher (97 as opposed to 93).
AS I say, I've run the tyres for the last two years and they've been fine, just that after having he two rears replaced, the car feels like you're driving in a strong wind - it feels nowhere near as planted as it did.
Must say, I did oringinally think that 16" was very small - the wheels on my Mini are 16" for example. But when I bought them, there was a link to some PDF that clearly showed the wheel/tyre package was recommended by BMW for 5 series. Though I believe the wheels are actually 3-series wheels.
