Beldredge,
it seems you have made up you mind and for good reasons.
I think you are a lucky man having to chose between two great models.
I've tested both and think I would be happy with either of them - and I have two kids myself.
Personally I picked the E61 - strange enough I like the looks of the E61 better and appreciate its versatility (eg the extra space to transport a mountainbike inside the car).
It was new news to me that the E61 is much more exotic in the US - don't think its the same in continental Europe - a bit more so in the UK.
Any case good luck and enjoy the car - its a step up from what you have today !

e60s have a suprisingly large trunk...we get all of the kids stuff back there + 2 strollers! I would have gone for a wagon if they offered a V8 in it. e61 with m pack is off the hook!

Yeah - I have to admit, the sedan is really what I want; obviously my struggle has been regarding whether the wagon would be that much more useful. I actually started out this process with the wagon in mind, but as I shopped more and more, and started noticing the E60/61's on the road, I find myself so much more drawn to the sedan, from an aesthetic perspective. Thus, the reason for starting this thread.
Anyhow - thank you so much for all the advice and input. So much of it is simply a personal decision, driven largely by emotion, but it helps so much to hear practical experiences from actual owners.

And as far as the hookers, I wasn't planning on getting the fold-down rear seats - looks like that might be a problem.

Wow! And I only have two kids, so I should have plenty of room leftover in that trunk!

No such thing as a "sedan" or a "wagon" - but get the Tourer as it's rarer and more balanced

EBMCS03 - that diagram cracked me up! Of course, that's probably because I WISH we could put the kids back there sometimes. As for hooker storage, I have no opinion to offer. ;-)

That's not a question. Color? Now that's a question!
Seriously, go for the sedan. (And lots of answers for a "silly question". lol)
I have a 63cm frame bike and it fits inside the sedan trunk with the rear seats folded down (make sure you get that option!). It fits in the sedan better than it fit an X5, believe it or not! Color?
