I think dealers can be quite fickle. It would be great if all dealers gave the same efficient pre-sale and post-sale-pre-delivery, but in practice everyone is different. If you have a good one, DaveH, then stick with them, they're hard to find.
Did you buy local? I'm not far away from you and I found a wide range of attitudes from salesmen in the few dealers in the local area I trawled. Post-sale, in the past I had better information and updates from my salesman when I've not got a discount, and minimal when I have got a good discount.

I bought through drivethedeal.co.uk, saved 11.25% off list (but no discount on OTR charges, so 'only' saved about 10.5% off OTR price). Trailer delivery is included. Drivethedeal took ?1000 deposit and sent my name to a BMW main dealer in the west country (I'm not allowed to say which one) who called me promptly to sort out the details. They've been great, you'd think I was buying at full price. They were the ones who emailed the aux-in picture that I posted here, also read the BMW week 9 announcement in detail to me over the phone.
I don't have the car yet, of course, but so far cannot recommend drivethedeal too highly (must remember to come back and update this in due course).
