Hi
I have installed the original BMW/westfalia towbar kit on my 2006 530dat. I followed the instructions step by step and connected all the right cables (99% certain I have done everything correct). However, 2 cables were not connected as the were only for models produces after 09/06. The problem is that no lights on my trailer are working, and the PDC sensors at the rear doesnt deactive as they should. I was told on a forum that coding/reprogramming was not nessecary, but my dealer clams that the car needs a full reprograming/update at a cost of 450euros... I have just installed INPA and NCS expert on my computer. Tried to run a diagnose yesterday and I found one error with the AHM module (which is the trailer module?) The error says: 71 AHM 9DFA (hex for 40442) error 68. Anyone who knows what this means? And is this something I can fix my self? How can I code the AHM module? |
You need to code the trailer module to the car - pretty certain you will need NCS expert for this - I had to have a new module as mine was water damaged, the new one needed the above action to ensure no fault codes came up on the dash ....hope this helps

for reference purposes only probably: i have installed a Westfalia towbar with Jaeger wiring loom. No coding was required, lights work without a problem, PDC switches off. That means: teh PDC screen comes up on the monitor since the front sensors still need to function. The screen shows the rear of the car as well but there were no beeps with the mobile home attached.
Two additional wires in the loom are available for permanent power, additional loom required. One thing not sure yet: light failure notification on iDrive: not broken light bulbs yet (and no time to test yet). The documentation provided with the loom does not clarify, i do not expect this to work. Regards, Martin |
I have now used NCS expert to change the vehicle order by adding option S235A. The AHM module became then visible in NCS expert, but I was not able to code the unit as some error messages appeared. I have used DIS for running a diagnosis, and the error messafe says something about undervoltage at terminal 30.. I have connected the two cables to the fuse panel at the rear right side of the car as specified in the manual, and I have meassured approx 12 volt on both..
Any ideas?? I have not terminated the long red cable in the trailer loom to the fusebox in the front of the car as the manual says "only for cars buildt after 09/06".. |
Hi Martin
Thx for posting your experiences. What model year is your e60/e61? Which cables did you connect, and where? /Jon
