Torque Converter Damage?

Specs: 2006 530Xi 119k miles

Two months ago in heavy traffic a VANOS solenoid failed and my car began shaking violently side-to-side. I had to drive 5 miles for a safe pull over with the RPMs everywhere from near stall to 7k. Several times the tires spun just trying moving at a steady pedal input.

Post repair: At steady highway speeds (especially with cruise control) there is a feeling of mini-surges/hesitation, almost like a minuscule jerk in the drivetrain. Its not reflected in any gauge and not throwing any codes. RPMs are steady, etc. In-town speeds are smooth.

Adaptive trans has been reset, all wheels checked for damage, mounts, controls arms- you name it-all are ok. Could it be the torque converter? Might the hellish 5 mile drive with wild RPMs have damaged it?

My wife's xi does the same thing @ mild acceleration ~1300-2500PRM and at steady highway throttle. Do a trans-fluid and filter change and add one or two tubes of Lubeguard Dr. Tranny Instant Shudder Fix. My wife added one and it helped. I'll do a flush when I get home and add at least one tube if not two.
