Have you checked your fuses?

Hi everyone,

I wanted to say thanks for the knowledge and info sharing on this thread!

My 2007 E61 had a left hand number plate bulb warning recently and I changed the bulb with no luck. Googling got me here.

After looking at the wires and putting things back together I had both number plate bulbs and a rear fog light erroring.

I took the plunge and pulled the right drivers side loom through the speaker and found 3 totally broken wires and most of the others frayed. Temporary repair in place whilst I wait for some solder to arrive.

Would welcome some advice on what tape / cover to out over the solder connections?

Thanks!

I used these. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Solder-Hea...item4acc80f126
Guaranteed connection and insulation.
Not cheap but I'm impressed by these things everytime I use them.

You'll probably reds and blues.

Cool. Hadn't heard of "Solder Heatshrink Butt Splice Terminal Connectors" before. Would a hair dryer be hot enough to melt the solder? Or must be a heat gun?

I use a small gas soldering iron with a flame showing.
Not sure about hair dryer.. Heat gun does work though for sure.

Hello.
I recently repaired all 4 wires in the looms on my 2006 E61 wagon which fixed many of the related problems. However, the rear glass window still would not open. This also led to my interior lights not turning off unless I manually did from the inside (button on sealing) and the rear wiper from working, although ever so often it will move a few inches.
The great information from this thread led me to the microswitch replacement, which I purchased from a BMW dealer out of Atlanta and replaced.

Unfortunately, the problem still persists with the window, wiper, and interior lights, which led me to this posting.
During my wire repair, I only had two sized wire gauges which either matched the current wire size or was a larger gauge. Would this create any problems with conductivity?
Also, does anyone have suggestions or thoughts on fixing this.
Thank you.

Bigger is ok. Smaller isn't.
A smaller wire would restrict current flow and overheat whereas a larger wire won't.
Do you need to add wire?
Mine was a simple join the ends back together job...
