Question for e60 touring owners with the 18 inch style 124 wheels...are your rear wheels the larger 8.5 inch width wheels with the 255/35 tires (same as the 545 sport)? If so, will they fit on an e60 with X Drive? Also, what brand/type of tire does anyone recommend for the e60 Touring (18 inch) non run flats? Thanks...

i'm also interested in this topic, i want to put the Style 124's on a 530xi sedan. from what i gather, the 124's are the same width all around (they look like the width of the front tires in the rear also) so that they can fit on the x-drive. anyone with pics of a 530xi with 124's or 123's would be greatly appreciated.

I have got style 124 wheels on my touring. It is not 4 wheel drive but when I upgraded from style 116 the Dealer said BMW did not recommend the staggered set up with wider wheels on the back like the saloon ( sedan ) model, something to do with the different suspension set-up or clearances. So I have the same width wheels and tyres all round. I would imagine that the same applies to the 4 wheel drive tourings.
As for tyres I would recommend Michelin Pilot Sport 2 which I have got and am very happy with.

Thanks for the info...Yesterday I ordered a 530xiT for September production so I could get the comfort access option. Part of the deal includes the style 124 wheels. I have to supply the tires. I'm still considering a slightly different size tire (235/45 18) to fill out the wheel well a bit more but I'm not sure if that would create other problems. There seems to be very few tire choices in that size.

The 545 with style 124 has 245/40 on 8.0X18 rims in the front and 275/35 on 8.5X18 rims in the rear. I would suspect the front style 124 has the same offsets as the other 5er wheels(non staggered like style 123) So the 8.0X18 should fit on the back with no problem. You may be able to go 255 on an 8 inch wide wheel, the M5 has a 255 on an 8.0X19.

Thanks for the response. I think the 255/40 18 tire will fit the wheel well, but I'm not sure about the 8 inch style 124 wheel. When viewing the specs for 255/40 18 tires on the tirerack web site, the recommended minimum wheel width is 8.5 inches. I'm not sure if that 1/2 inch would be a problem.

I have a set of 124 in the storage from a E60 and the front wheels is 8" wide and have 245:s mounted. It looks right perfect and I think 255 would look a little "ballonish" on the same rims.

I have test mounted the 9" wheels and 275/35-18 tyres on the rear and it was just about 1cm of space between the suspension and the tyre. I talked with the mechanic and he said it was the same on the old M5 and it was no problem. He explained that the track with increases when the suspension in compressed. So I will mount it all and give it a try on the road next summer.

I think your biggest issue with the 8.5 124 will be the offset. I am almost sure the offset between the 8 and the 8.5 124s are different. The offset is the same for all non-staggered wheels i.e the style 123, so 8.0 124s will fit all the way around. So what I'm getting at is I am not sure an 8.5 124 will fit in the front. I have an extra 8.5 124 but with no tire so I can't fit it to the front to test.
