I had a self levelling compressor replaced by a BMW dealer recently. I also noticed that the steering wheel is not centered (2 or 3 degrees off to the left) but ma not entirely sure when i first noticed it. Could these two be related in any way? Does the replacement of the compressor affect the alignment? The dealer wants to charge £250 to align the steering wheel, but if it was a result of his work ion the compressor, then he should fix it for free.

Thanks for any help.

There's no connection - replacing the compressor shouldn't require any alignment adjustments front or rear.

If the steering wheel isn't straight when you go down the road that means either someone has adjusted the tracking a bit cack-handed to result in a wheel that isn't straight or something's bent. Bear in mind camber in the road can result in having to countersteer slightly to get the car to go straight.

Thanks. It is not camber because it is turned left of center when going straight (otherwise it would be right) and no one has fiddled with the steering system to my knowledge, so I'll ask them to check if something is bent.
