It is a pleasant -3.9?C outside, variable wind from the west, with light snowfall at the moment. This sort of weather gets me fired up and makes me think about summer tires, car wash yard parties with friends, using the A/C in my BMW for what it is intended to do, and wishing that I had decent cup holders for my over-sized, on-board beverages.

So, with warm weather thoughts in mind, what sort of mods do you have planned for this year? Please share your plans, no matter the size or cost, and perhaps someone else will find some inspiration! I could use some!!

My Ride: Jan 2006 E63 650i Sport . Options: Sport version (includes: sport-seats, sport-suspension, M-Sport steering wheel, Anthracite headliner, Shaddow Line), Saphire Black, Black Dakota Leather, Anthracite Maple Wood trim, Steptronic Auto, Xenons, NAV-Professional with Voice Control, TV, CD-Changer, Bluetooth, Logic7, Head-up Display, Comfort Access, Seat Heating front, Auto Dimming & Folding Mirrors, Extended Auto Air Conditioning, PDC. . Mods: Spacers 5mm front & 15mm rear . Wheels: 20" Alpina Softline (Classic) with Dunlop Sport Maxx non-RFT (255/35/20 & 285/30/20)
Default

Next mod is new summer rims to the replace the M5 rims (that don't fit with my spacers )... so to put a back on my face, I'm buying myself a set of OEM M172 19" rims

Some time later in the year I might remove the roof rails, but still trying to work out if 1) I really prefer the look and 2) if its really worth the hassle / money.

I recently bought and fitted some full-chrome grills and love the look of them, but might also buy a set of black grills because I sometimes prefer that look. (Now I know how to remove them, I should be able to swap them depending on the look I want and not break the tabs off each time!)

A Dension gateway might be installed later in the year too. I'm surviving with CDs at the moment, but I am also really into my iTunes and getting very used to the luxary of the huge playlists you get with the iPod.

That's whats going through my mind at the moment and trying to pace myself with the mods and restrict them to cheap ones... well I've already blown that with the rims

My Ride: E61 sold nice E91 335i Sport Touring now
Default

Things I'd like to do:

Sprintbooster. I know it doesn't help acceleration but the reduced pedal travel would be nice
BBK
LSD, possibly Quaife
172 staggered wheels would be nice
retrofit memory seats
would love digital tv of some sort through the satnav screen. Still not sure how to do this?? Denison??
Quick shift - got a z4 3.0 lever ready to modify when I get time. If I sort this I'll do another DIY guide
bi-xenon lights retrofit

Would also like a nice weekend without the kids so I can get the UDM out and correct the paint! I manage to clay and wax but never get enough peace and quiet to get it up to the standard I want

Next mod is new wheels for summer tyres to replace the M5 166 rims.
I will go with Alpina classic 19" rims.
I love their classic look.

I love their classic look.
They are beautiful rims, no doubt. Why not go for them in 20"?
Or go for one of my current favourites, which are very similar to the Alpinas, namely the BMW OEM rim type 32 in 20" -- click here
Now they would look great on your touring and probably cheaper than the Alpinas if buying new.
The 20" version of the type 32 is for the 7er and has the following specs:
9x20 * front 245/40R20 ET 24
10x20 * rear 275/35R20 ET 24
With 5-10mm spacers you'd be just fine, depending on the look you want.

My plan during the spring is to mount the carbon grille, carbon rear diffuser and the M5 exhaust, Hamann carbon splitter, new 20" wheels and rear led lights. All is waiting in my yet cold garage

Even though it is a Monday morning (I hate Mondays), an hour ago, I had my latest mod completed: M5 rear anti-sway bar installation. This took all of 20 minutes, 10 of which were spent drinking prison coffee with my mechanic, while looking at the underside of my car for the first time.

I have no clue if a 3mm thicker anti-sway bar will make any real difference, but I got a good deal on the bar + brackets/bushings, and the installation was free.

No pics... I was too tired at 07.10 to take the camera with me.

The type 32 are very nice aswel. Unfortunately it is not allowed to install them on the E61. The bigest size allowed by the papers are 19".
