don,t ask me why but i,m thinking the bumper trim at rear where the exhaust comes through would look much better if it was black , is it easy to remove so i can leave with my bodyshop friend "paintspraypete" ?
if anyone has done this already i look forward to some pics
planning to have the chrome kidney surround blacked at the same time

What color is your E61?
Yes, the black diffusor does look nice, especially the real CF versions.
In order to do a proper job, you need to remove the diffusor from the bumper. Doing that requires you to remove the entire rear bumper. As I recall, there are 4 bolts holding the bumper to the car. That said, I failed in my attempts to remove it, whereas my mechanic did it in about 5 minutes.
Good luck, and post pics when you get it taken care of!

^You can remove the diffuser with the bumper still attached, it's just a major PITA.
Personally I think the carbon fiber ones bring down the looks of the car. Not to mention you can't seem to find any quality units that actually fit as good as stock:

For me, I chose to have a stock one custom fabricated to include dual-exhaust support (assuming that's why you're asking). All the perfect fitment of stock, but with dual outlets:

And it is possible to take your original diffusor, and have it covered in CF film.
