Default Side Mirror Question

Hey guys - have you seen anything like this happen to a side mirror. I have a 2010 E61.

I did a quick VIN check and it says I have
"S430A Interior/outside mirror with auto dip"

Does anyone one know if that means self-dimming? And if replacing, why is there a $300 difference between the OEM ( http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/part...&q=51167228612)

and some cheap imitations on Amazon (
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...A2P985UG1YLI2I https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...A2P985UG1YLI2I
)

And on eBay (I get they're from China but for $22, who cares?
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...A2P985UG1YLI2I https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...A2P985UG1YLI2I

Are the cheaper one's not compatible? Do they not work? Anything has to be better than the double-night vision I get from these pieces of junk. Just passenger side for now but looks like it might be happening on the drivers too. Thanks in advance!

jaded,

You cannot replace a self-dimming mirror with a non-dimming mirror because the connectors are different.

When my driver's side mirror broke, I was able to find a European style type (concave edges for blind spot coverage) from a junk yard in Eastern Europe via Ebay. I paid ~$160 USD for both driver and passenger sides and it only took ~10 days to get them. Love them! I'll look for some and post pics of mine.

Sorry for the late reply, yes something like that would work.

For a little bit more you can upgrade the looks to these....you might want to wait for a better option to come up (these have scratches):

Those are the same type I bought, without frame and with the edges that show more, love them!!!

Better ones but separate auctions but same company:

By the way, I have my OEM passenger side mirror...if you want to keep it stock, make me an offer ;-)

Dimmable, heated.

Crap, I wish I read this earlier - just bought thhe OEM one's from that eBay auction. Oh well, at least I saved $60 on a new shifter!

As for the upgraded mirrors, I like them a lot - will keep my eye on a good pair; I'm not in love with the OEM, specifically the edges. But anything would be an upgrade from the "double vision" I get out of the trashed ones I have on right now, so I can't wait.
