I have the thule mount as well...Get the short crossbars and if you can, shorten them about 3-4" as well ( just measure before you cut...)

The end stuck out just a bit to far and a rear seat passenger whacked their head on one getting out of the back seat.

Narvselius is correct- this is the part number for the E61-specific cross bars (there is another for the E60 and also what appears to be a "universal" cross bar part number).

I don't know about the similiarities between Thule and BMW cross bars, but there appears to be some differences between Thule and BMW roof boxes. I looked at the Thule product line, hoping to discover that the BMW Roof Box 460 was simply a rebranded, more expensive Thule, but could find no identical product. I ended up ordering the 460 at a discount from the local dealer.
