On my E46 when I retrofitted RLS (I installed my own prism on the glass since i hadn’t changed the windshield) I kept telling it to initialize and the error wouldn’t go away. Turned out I had a bad sensor. Borrowed the sensor from a friend’s car and it instantly initialized. Then later got a crack in my windshield and got a new one with prism and it worked much better. I recognize this is a different platform than the E60 but it is possible your sensor is bad? On the E46 you tell it to initialize, then turn the key off and back on and that’s when it either initializes or sets a code.

I thought I would update the software on RLS before deciding on replacing it and did it with NCSExpert and after successful program completion, all drive errors showed up at once which scared the hell out of me, Went for a short drive but still present with message "limited driving possible". Just left it off for a while and then turned it on and the errors went away.
Other thing I tried to follow
to check the rain sensors, in ISTA+, I only see light sensors, no rain sensors like seen in that video and it always fails initialization. Does this mean I have bad module?? Mine is a rectangle type rather than round one you see in the video.

Before I go ahead and buy replacement, can someone check their sensor in ISTA to see what how it looks like in Diagnosis scan please?

I am baffled with this error, not sure how to tackle it or where to start. I got a new used one of the same part#, installed it and tested it right away. Worked like a charm by wiping when I spray water on the sensor. Erased errors in RLS module and left it without initialising or updating VIN or doing anything. So, I thought everything is back to normal. But, today, A129 is back again. Not sure how to diagnose this issue, any help is much apprecaited.
The following two errors are persistent in DSC module
6E83 DSC: Tyre Pressure Control: interface dxc_70 Dynamic stability control EHB3
5ED2 DSC: Interface, rain/light sensor
followed by
A129 RLS: Rain sensor not calibrated to windscreen
RDC has no errors stored
thanks

If I'm not mistaken, the DSC uses RLS data to tell the car to lightly apply brakes when driving at speed and the RLS detects rain, in order to keep the rotors dry. I'm guessing that's why you see DSC errors with it thinking it is uncalibrated. Weird that it works but then calibration fails.

Yes, I am not worried about the RLS error in DSC module, since the RLS itself has initialization error. I am sure once the A129 code is resolved, DSC error will go away.
Not sure why it worked briefly when I replaced the module with a used one and then stopped working now, unless the calibration is really failing. Could it really be the gel pad or the windshield???!!

Sorry for being unclear in the above post, auto wiping doesnt work anymore. I am very sure that it worked when I replaced the module since it wiped as soon as I spray water and in parked position when there is no water. But now, it doesnt. It just wipes for every 5 seconds no matter if I spray water or not.
Could it be the gel pad deterioration or windsheild scratches etc???!!!
The system wiring itself looks simple with only 4 wires to the sensor, two being power and ground and the other two being K-CAN bus.

Ok, looks like I got it working now. So, here is how I went about it
At first, I tested light sensing feature. It works fine by turning off the low beams when I shine a flashlight onto the sensor and turns on when I switch off the flashlight. So, this means that the CAN lines are fine and the sensor is having power.
Then went ahead with ISTA+ service functions and started doing initialization, at the end it said to clear the fault code after its done. But, when I tried to delete the fault memory, it is failing to do it. This meant that there must be some issue with the initialization, it is trying to do it, but is not able to successfully finish it.
So, I went ahead and removed the module and checked the front plate where the LEDs transmit and receive the IR light, sure enough there is some dust on those lenses, especially on the third and fourth one. Cleaned the whole front plate with alcohol pad and then with cloth. Reassembled the module and did the initialization and it finished successfully and was able to clear the code as well. The auto wipe feature works as it should now, only when I spray water on the sensor.
Hope this helps someone having this kind of problem.
Now, since the RLS issue is resolved. I went ahead and checked RDC module, since I have 6E83 error in DSC, but none in RDC
Started reading the tire pressures in ISTA and oddly enough, it is not able to read the rear left wheel pressure and shows as below.
Any suggestions on where to start with this error.
Would like to clear all the errors before starting to replace DSC and coding in the ACC2 feature. I have all the hardware installed (except for DSC) and wired up accoridng to the wiring diagrams.
