Hi Anyone know why BMW does not allow shifting into reverse when the steptronic is in DS? Its a bit annoying when I forget that I am in DS and plan to reverse...always takes a few seconds before I realize the problem....

I agree .

Also if you go into DS mode then push the lever back or forward into manual mode , then how do you go back to DS without going back to D and then into DS again ? Is there a shortcut ,easier way ?

And it would also be interesting to know what gear it is in when you're in DS mode. When driving mountains or hills downwards (on vacations, the netherlands are flat ;-)) i'm alway's wondering if it's time to shift down, or that i'am alreay in M2..... Seems like some nice improvement possibilities for BMW on the automatic gearbox and display

Assuming your car is an LCI, I think I am right in saying that if you convert to SAT and have the car coded and you would get S1, S2 etc displayed when in DS mode. I have SAT but haven't bothered with the coding.

Regards,

David.

Sorry, no LCI. But then it looks like a good idea they have already implemented . So the problem will be solved with my next car

... remember the Mitsubishi Colt in the 80-ies? It had a Low and High gear lever to the left of the gear stick, that car could actually change gear when going reverse!
