I asked my local dealer (in the US) about removing the roof rails - just think is looks cleaner - and they mumbled a lot and said it couldn't be done.
Can anyone point me in the right direction please?
Thanks in advance,
Alex

jbeene had rails installed on his Msport E61. The installation process is quite involved and requires removal of the headliner and deactivation of the air bags. You will then need to order the strips to fill in the channel where the rails were previously mounted.
IIRC it was almost a full day at the dealer labor wise plus parts plus painting of the roof trim.

I was quoted about EUR 500 to remove my roof rails, but this is what my dealer is expecting - it could be more.. Basically it is right, headliner needs to be removed, new strips need to be ordered (costs about 90 EUR), painted and then fitted. Important thing - the holes need to be covered well so that water does not get in - the last thing you want is water between the roof and the headlineer....

Plan B = Embrace that which you cannot change, so I'll just have to learn to enjoy my rails.
Thank you for the info!
