One of our remote key fobs is defective. We just bought the car. (an '06 530 XIT)

The "lock" button doesn't work.

We're ok--the other remote key fob works fine.

What do you suggest? Can replacement one's be bought on ebay? Can we insert the cut key blade from the defective fob in the replacement one (saving a trip to the dealer, and a time consuming recutting of the key?)

Thanks in advance (and I have done a search.)

Regards,
DaveL

Could it be a dead battery?

Thanks for your response. No, the other buttons work. The "Lock" button is the only one that doesn't work.

Looking for ways to save money. Wondering if a keyless remote from ebay can be used for parts....

How long have u had the car? Is it still under warranty? When I purchased my car used, one of the keys didn't work. They replace it for free.

Thanks so much for your input. The dealer has ordered a new key fob covered by warranty. Good news!

Wrap up--

Dealer called us and said the keyfob was in. Wrong!

We have an early 2006, Cdn model.

The fob didn't fit.

Dealer ordered another, and it was in and worked fine in a month.

What's the point? If you have an '06 wagon be sure the dealer knows the car.
