Well I've had the car for nearly a month and remapped already! Simon at E Maps was given the task and managed to fit me in before Christmas and before a 1000mile pending trip up North.
The process must be listed in other threads but suffice to say after an uplift of about 70Nm, I really don't think I could notice any difference and said as much, a tweek to an extra 100Nm followed and there is an improvement in torque but still not the marked improvement I was expecting. I guess I was expecting a night and day type change in performance. On the plus I am now getting a constant 40-42 MPG at 70-80 and 1st seems to be largely redundant!
Simon was excellent and very professional and went the 'extra mile' when I was initially disappointed. Has anyone else had a slight anticlimax post mapping or is it just me?

I had my 530d auto remapped by DMS and the difference was very obvious - the car pick-ups much faster when accelerating (it's the proverbial kick in the back when in sport mode) and better economy too. I definitely felt the difference when my dealer accidentally overwrote the remap and the car went back to its default settings - it felt as though I was driving through treacle. I very quickly had the remap reinstalled by the DMS boys (the cost covered under their warranty)....
Something is not right, are you sure the map has actually taken?

He did try the map twice, how would I tell if it hasn't? I suppose a rolling road would reveal the uplift.

Because it wouldn't feel different. It should be extremely obvious, and if in doubt I would say then it hasn't been done properly.

My Ride: Silver grey '06 535d M-Sport Touring, visibility pack, media pack, hi-gloss, heated leather, sun-pro glass
Red Alert: 3500hp triple-turbo, alcohol-fuelled Case-IH
The best way to confirm would be on a rolling road. My 535d felt wildly different, and a stint on the rollers confirmed what she's packing: was 268hp and 413 lbs as standard (because I had to know what was in there), and finished with 325hp with 502 lbs..... And it is night and day to drive.
