Removing top bolt of hydraulic pump
I took a series of pictures....attached are 2. One shows a socket and extension on the upper bolt, the other shows the carpeting that I removed from the bottom and side in order to have better access. I never did figure out BMW's secret way of removing the side carpet, but another person who I sent instructions to was able to find the bolt and do the job without removal of the carpet panels......but he said it was VERY difficult to remove and get back together.

Hi there CarlsbadBill,
Thanks for the pictorials! I printed this out and will look at the E61 tomorrow. Based on the two pictures, it looks like I will be able to access this bolt from the Front side behind the fabric sound deadening material. I will give this a shot tomorrow and will let you the outcome. Thanks again for the quick response.

Hello, folks. New member to this site, but long time BMW lover. I recently started having problems with my tailgate and this thread was SUPER helpful. Based on what is documented here, I was able to figure out how to refill without removing the pump or disconnecting anything. I regularly post on another forum, so I will link that post here.
How to refill the liftgate pump on an E60 - Tailgate not opening fully
Thanks so much to all of you on this forum who provided such great information to help me complete this project.
