McMaster has these https://www.mcmaster.com/#retaining-rings/=16xq0sy
Not sure if this would work or not?

Or maybe this is better - https://www.springmasters.com/sp/int...nap-rings.html
Would you say given the one you found - would one be better with a clip a little bigger or a little smaller, as I can't seem to find one that matches the dimensions of what you found and used.
Hi, I don't think any of the snap rings you linked to will work. What you need is a "Round Wire Snap Ring" with an inside diameter just a little bit smaller than 10mm.
As you can see, the one I found and am using has an inside diameter of 9,80mm and an outside diameter of 12,30mm the thickness of the wire/ring is 1,26mm.

Round Wire Snap Rings: Carbon Spring Steel Retaining Ring & C-Clips SimplyBearings has wire snap rings and I would send them an e-mail asking if they could help me find the correct size or do some extensive searching on the interwebs.

Thanks. Now I know the name of what I'm supposed to be looking for. That shop yo linked to is a bearings shop, but located outside the US.

I think there is a bearing shop located near me here in Boston, so I'll try to talk to them.

Thanks again!

Just talked to an online retailer - and found this https://www.huyett.com/Products/Fast...chText=drb-010

may be the closest, but seems to not match your specs?

I believe the ball is sized 10mm (at least that is what it is called out as). I assume that is the ball size, and not the thread size?

I don't think the specs for that ring is close enough.
The thickness of the original ring (1,4 mm) is almost double the size as the one on that page (0,8 mm).

I measured the diameter of the ball (BMW part# 41627148797) and it is 10 mm.

My wife's MDX has the power liftgate and truthfully, we only used it a handful of times throughout our ownership thus far. Otherwise we normally shut it manually most of the time.
could you supply the part numbers you used? I might go this route besides trying to keep the car original.

thanks

Others have mentioned this, but I'll throw in my advice as well- I drilled a small hole in the lift arm "socket" as tight as I could to the "shoulder" of the ball, and stuck a cotter pin of sorts through there. The arm never pops off the ball now, and I didn't have to order any special parts.

A rubber mallet or a hammer and a piece of wood would work. I used a hammer and a piece of plastic to pop mine in place on the ball bolt. It has as been working like a charm ever since.
