Newbie from South Wales
Morning all!
Just joined the forum after purchasing a 2008 E61 520d M. I've been running a 4.4 X5 for the past two years, the astronomical price of fuel has pushed my to look towards economy rather than enjoying the roar of the V8. I hope I'm not to disappointed......
Is there anything particular I should be aware of with this model? Any advice appreciated.

great car, doubt you'll miss much in the torque department and the fuel economy is mindblowing.
as far as I know, most of the bugs have been worked out in the '08. i.e. you shouldn't have trouble with a leaking panorama roof or poor wiring in the hatch. the aerial for the central locking should also work better. if you have the standard stereo you'll probably be looking for an upgrade; same if you only have business navigation.
be sure you give it a good long run every now and then, and try to avoid short trips to the baker sunday morning; turbodiesels with a diesel particulate filter don't like short trips and it's costly to clean and replace injectors and turbo.
best of luck
The latest Bimmer magazine has an very interesting buyers guide to the E60/61 that you may want to peruse? While it is a US magazine the article many eventually be available on their website, or possibly in a bookstore?

Thanks for the replies guy's!
I am going to miss the X5 but already love the fuel economy figures.
First job is to fit a towbar. Now I have done this before on a couple of cars including the X5, but the wiring kit is a little daunting. I have partially installed the kit and 3 wires which need to be connected to the exeisting wiring loom. They are a blue and brown, a yellow and black and a twisted yellow with black. I think I'm going to have to call the Topwequipe help line on this one because I a bit nervous about getting it wrong.
I think I have traced the blue and brown (from off side light), the yellow and black I think should be located just above the fuse board, fairly straight forward. The twisted yellow and black is connected in the wheel well but there are 2 options possible for the connection. Has anyone used the Westfalia wiring kit (right connections)?? If so have you got any photos of the actual connections??
Why don't instructions come with photos rather than child like drawings?????
Cheers
Jack
