Hi, new member here with first post.
I bought my wife a 2010 535 xit in January 2010 to replace her 2001 540it. She likes wagons and since we enjoyed our 540 wagon I thought we'd go with BMW again.
I was sorry to find out that we couldn't get a direct replacement for the 2001 540 wagon (V8, rear wheel drive, and M Package). We were however convinced to order the M Package 535 xit as the dealer said it would look just like the 550 sedans with M-Package he had on the lot. We knew it had slight differences but we didn't think it would matter.
It took about 7 weeks from order to arrival. As soon as it arrived I knew I needed to mod it some as it certainly did not have the stance of a 2010 550 with M package (the smaller 18" wheels with less aggressive offset and no sport suspension really made a difference to me, my wife was fine with it thought).
So here is what I have done so far:
Bought replica M6 wheels (Miro 346) $850.00 USD delivered:
19 x 8.5 with 35mm offset in front
19 x 9.5 with 43mm offset rear (I ordered 40mm offset but they came in wrong and I didn't bother exchanging)
Center bore matched up to the original 72.56 original set
Bought Dunlop Direzza DZ101 tires ($740.00 USD delivered):
245/35 - 19 fronts
275/30 - 19 rears
If I had to do it again I would get a 285/30 - 19 rear. Even though it is only a small change in width, it comes with a small change in overall diameter so the front tire diameter will more closely match the rear tire diameter. After i bought my tires I checked the OEM tire sizes for other BMW x-drive cars with staggered offset wheels; seems front tire diameter is always very close to rear tire which I guess is to put as little stress on the x-drive as possible (wheel speed difference front to rear). Using the 285 series tire would have put me in the same factory tolerance as an X3, X5, or 3 series x-drive with staggered wheels. I am slightly off by using the 275/30-19 but will stick it out as returning was expensive and others seem to have gone this route and are okay.
Bought 4 BERU TPMS and valve stems ($208 USD delivered for set of four)
433MHZ Sensor and the part number on the BERU box is 0 532 207 008
part number for valve stems is 0535.007.001
I mounted the TPMS sensors myself using the BERU instructions and then got the tires and wheels balanced and mounted at a local tire shop for $64.00 USD.
The car is not lowered (I would like to lower it but I don't think I will because it is my wife's car and she simply drives the kids around in it)

on board and congrats on the new car!Great intro, thanks for the write up. There's plenty of X-drive E61 owners out there trying to get their heads around what wheel set-up to go for, so this will no doubt be a big help for them.
The car looks great with the M-Sport pack, Platinum Grey and Miros. As you wrote yourself, a lower stance would suite the look better, but if the wife's happy, then your happy
That said, you'll find quite a lot of useful here in the E61 forum regarding lowering an E61 X-drive.Enjoy!

You have done some nice mods.
But you are wrong about the 285 rear tires. If you check from HERE the Style 124, you can find the "allrad" tire sizes 245 front and 275 rear.
Yes I have 285`s because they are exactly the same diameter, but surprise surprise thats not the case
Here´s my story from another topic:
"...when I took my car to inspection, the guy told me something new. Eventhough the diameter is exactly the same 655mm, the "rolling diameter" is not the same since the wider rubber isn´t compressed as much under the weight as the front. That might be the reason why the factory is using 275`s in their staggered set up for the x-Drive
I´m not worried about this and I compensated the difference with a bit higher pressure in the front."
